While all Case and Practice Management providers in the immigration space are subject to the same hacking threats and vulnerability to natural disasters, you can (and should) ask for the following items, in writing, for enhanced security:
- Request your vendor to house your data in its own separate database instead of a shared database between all users — in IT technical terms, this is referred to as Single Tenancy data model. This physical isolation of data will provide for better security and a more sound risk mitigation. While most vendors shy away from Single Tenancy model due to the increased costs associated with the production environment, Cerenade’s eIMMIGRATION has been following this methodology since its inception and has been absorbing the additional costs in exchange for delivering superior security to its client base.
- Ask your vendor for on-the-fly Geo-replication of your data. What this essentially means is that your data should be replicated and backup-up on-the-fly from your vendor’s primary data-center to a secondary data-center located in a different geographic region. Note that this is NOT the same as nightly backups to a remote location. This backup methodology will provide you with maximum resilience and superior disaster recovery because if your vendor’s primary data-center is totally obliterated due to a natural disaster or some other unforeseen event, the secondary Geo-replicated data-center will still have your up-to-date data with just a few minutes of difference. While this data backup architecture is more costly, Cerenade’s eIMMIGRATION has been following this methodology since its inception and has been absorbing the additional costs in exchange for delivering superior security to its client base.
- Choose vendors that do not have any dependence on third-party e-forms technology. This provides for considerably more flexibility and enhanced data security since form data does not have to travel between the Case Management provider’s infrastructure and the form engine vendor’s infrastructure, thereby preventing the third-party with having access to your confidential form data. Fortunate for Cerenade users and unfortunate for the other vendors in immigration space, we are the only provider with our own in-house e-forms technology.
- Make sure that your provider does not farm out any of its development and maintenance to outside entities. This precaution provides you with yet another layer of security. At the end of the day, you really don’t want to have to worry about jurisdiction or indemnification issues in the unlikely event of a security breach?
At Cerenade, we not only focus on providing you with one of the most powerful software in the market, we also want you to have one of the safest.
